Cold Tone Concerto: A Serenely Simple and Modern Residential Apartment

Unveiling the Beauty of Space Penetrability and Natural Lighting

In the bustling city of Taichung, the design team at Rootlocus Design Office has created a masterpiece that breaks the visual boundaries between public and private spaces. Cold Tone Concerto, designed by Hsiang Kai Yang, is a residential apartment that embraces open design principles, allowing residents to enjoy a private life while fostering emotional connections with their families.

The apartment, spanning 96 square meters, boasts a unique feature that sets it apart from others - a massive window that floods the space with natural sunlight. However, the challenge lies in the walls that obstruct the quality of the view. To overcome this, the design team created a virtual space along the vertical axis, giving the illusion that objects are suspended in mid-air. On the horizontal axis, transparent zig-zag wall panels establish a seamless connection between the internal and external landscapes. As the day progresses, the sunlight casts a gradual variation in the space, creating an ever-changing environment of natural beauty.

To emphasize the consistency of the environment, the design team utilized stones and a special wall coating that resembles architectural concrete. This coating allows the natural flow of lighting from place to place, intensifying the quality and creating a serenely simple yet modern lifestyle.

The connection between the arched designed TV wall and different materials highlights the precision of techniques employed in Cold Tone Concerto. The arched-shoe cabinet and the wall create a mild and peaceful reflection of light, adding to the calming and luxurious ambiance of the space.

The project, which was completed on the 14th of January 2021, showcases the meticulous research and attention to detail that went into its creation. By disassembling the living area and virtualizing partial substances, the design team aimed to enhance space penetrability and maximize the visual experience. The floating design reduces the sense of heaviness often associated with traditional stone or metal materials, resulting in a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Cold Tone Concerto also addresses the challenge of connecting ceilings at different levels. The vertical arched wall, modified across three different axes, seamlessly integrates the various levels, creating a harmonious flow throughout the apartment.

Inspired by the desire to create a broad and calm space, Cold Tone Concerto welcomes natural sunlight and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding green scenery. The open and large layout configuration, combined with the elegant black and white natural stone, links the natural trajectory and provides a tranquil oasis in the midst of the city's hustle and bustle.

This exceptional design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. Cold Tone Concerto was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Rootlocus Design Office's creation is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, ultimately contributing to a better world.
